Yes, you do!

Every adult needs a Will, it is never too early start and you definitely don’t want to leave it until it is too late. People put off writing one for many reasons, including thinking that they don’t need one yet and it is a life admin job that can wait until next week. But, without a Will the Laws of Intestacy kick in and your assets and estate may not be distributed how you’d like.

No-one wants to think of the worst happening. But, it is better to be prepared. Here are our top tips on why you should have one in place;

  1. Peace of Mind! Make sure that your loved ones are protected. Right now, you have the choice over who receives what. Don’t wait until that choice is taken away from you. This can create anxiety and anguish for your loved ones.
  2. Ticking all the boxes! There are lots of useful and sensible things that can be added to your Will. It isn’t just about property and assets. Do you have children? Without a valid Will they could go into care whilst a Court makes a decision about custody. Do you have Pets? Where will your furry family members go if something happens to you. Would you like to thank a Charity that is close to your heart? Who runs your business on your demise?
  3. Age is just a number! Everyone over 18 years old should have a Will, especially if you are estranged from a parent. They could inherit everything you own should the worst happen.
  4. Easy peasy! Having a Will drawn up is relatively straight forward and doesn’t cost as much as you think it does. You can do a DIY Will yourself but think carefully about this as it may not be legally binding.
